This bill amends the Illinois Public Aid Code to expand access to family planning services for individuals regardless of their immigration status. Specifically, the bill requires the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to provide the same medical coverage for family planning services and supplies to lawful permanent residents and people of all immigration statuses that are currently available to U.S. citizens under the Medical Assistance Program. To qualify for these services, individuals must meet all other existing eligibility requirements of the HFS Family Planning Program, which is established under the state's Family Planning State Plan Amendment approved by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Importantly, the bill prohibits the Department from imposing any mandatory waiting period as a condition for receiving medical coverage for family planning services for lawful permanent residents or individuals of any immigration status who would otherwise be eligible. This legislation aims to ensure equitable access to reproductive healthcare services for all residents of Illinois, regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.
