This bill amends the Illinois Dental Practice Act to modify regulations for public health dental hygienists. Instead, the bill now allows public health dental hygienists who have completed a training program to provide services under a supervision agreement with a dentist working for or contracted with a local or state government agency, or providing services in a certified school-based oral health program. Significantly, the bill expands the potential work settings for public health dental hygienists, permitting them to provide care in any location outside of a private dental office, as long as they have a supervision agreement with a qualifying dentist. This change aims to increase access to dental care, particularly for underserved populations, by providing more flexibility for public health dental hygienists to deliver services in various community settings.
