AI Summary
This bill establishes the Student Teacher Promotion Act, which creates a grant program to financially support student teachers during their required teaching practicum in Georgia public schools. Under the bill, student teachers in approved teacher education programs can receive up to $7,500 in grant funds from public schools or local school systems, with the goal of supporting teacher recruitment. Public schools and local school systems can apply for these grants through the State Board of Education, and if a school does not apply, individual student teachers can apply directly. The State Board of Education, in collaboration with public schools, the Board of Regents, and the Professional Standards Commission, will develop rules and regulations for implementing the program, including establishing reporting requirements. The Department of Education must create and publish an application process for the grant program by September 1, 2025. A "student teacher" is defined as a college or university student in an approved teacher education program who is completing a student teaching component at a public school, with the intent of supporting and incentivizing individuals entering the teaching profession.
