AI Summary

This bill makes several changes to professional licensing and regulation in Georgia, with a primary focus on decoupling the sequential order of experience and examination requirements for professional engineers. The key provisions include: 1. For professional engineers, the bill removes the word "subsequently" from the requirements for passing the professional engineer's examination, effectively allowing engineers to take the exam before completing all required years of experience. This means engineers can now take the exam earlier in their career, potentially accelerating their professional advancement. 2. The bill establishes a statewide continuing education tracking solution for professional licensing boards under the Secretary of State's office. Starting January 1, 2026, license renewals will require verification of completed continuing education requirements through this new tracking system. 3. The legislation updates numerous technical references throughout Georgia's legal code, primarily changing hyphenated terms like "low-voltage" to two-word terms like "low voltage" for consistency. 4. The bill includes provisions related to various professional licensing divisions, including electrical contractors, plumbers, conditioned air contractors, low voltage contractors, and utility contractors. These changes include clarifying definitions, licensing requirements, and administrative processes. 5. The bill also includes a provision to expedite licensing for current or former military members who have obtained military specialties or certifications that substantially meet professional licensing requirements. The overall aim appears to be modernizing professional licensing procedures, providing more flexibility for professionals, and creating a centralized system for tracking continuing education compliance.
