This bill aims to establish guidelines and professional development for artificial intelligence (AI) in Maryland's K-12 education system. The bill removes the previously proposed Task Force on Artificial Intelligence in K-12 Education and instead focuses on direct development of AI integration strategies by the Department. The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Committee and CTE Advisory Committee will be required to use the Department's guidance when incorporating AI into their frameworks and pathways. Professional development funding for AI training will be allocated through the state budget, though specific mandatory training requirements have been removed. The bill is set to take effect on June 1, 2025, signaling Maryland's proactive approach to integrating AI responsibly into educational settings.
