Bill Summary

Amends the Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Practice Act of 2004. Provides that "certified veterinary technician" or "veterinary technician" means a person who is a graduate of a veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities and who has successfully passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination (rather than a person who is validly and currently licensed to practice veterinary technology in the State). Provides that every holder of a license shall display the license or a copy of the license in a conspicuous place in the holder's principal office or any other location where the holder renders services as a veterinarian or a certified veterinary technician. Requires every displayed license to have the license number visible.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Practice Act of 2004 to make several key changes. First, it modifies the definition of a "certified veterinary technician" or "veterinary technician" to specifically mean a person who has graduated from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited veterinary technology program and has successfully passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination, rather than simply being currently licensed in the state. Second, the bill introduces a new requirement that all license holders must display their license or a copy of their license in a clearly visible location at their primary office or any location where they provide veterinary services. Furthermore, when displaying the license, the license number must be clearly visible. This change aims to increase transparency and allow clients to easily verify the credentials of veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians. The bill also clarifies that only individuals certified by the Department may use titles such as "certified veterinary technician", "veterinary technician", "vet tech", or "technician", along with the initials "CVT" or "VT".
