This bill introduces the Fit for Purpose Wildfire Readiness Act of 2025, which directs the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior to jointly develop a comprehensive plan to consolidate federal wildland fire response efforts under a new agency called the National Wildland Firefighting Service. The proposed plan must include a detailed budget for the new service, specific qualifications for its Director (who would be presidential appointee confirmed by the Senate), and a comprehensive description of the resources and authorities needed to centralize wildfire preparedness, suppression, and recovery efforts. Within 180 days of the Act's enactment, the Secretaries must submit this plan to key congressional committees in both the Senate and House of Representatives, including the Senate's Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the House's Natural Resources Committee.
