This resolution recognizes Taek and Nancy Kim, owners of the Pulga de Alamo, a large flea market in the Rio Grande Valley, for their 29 years of business leadership and community contribution. The resolution highlights how the Kims, who are an immigrant from South Korea and a Mexican American respectively, purchased the market in 1996 when it was 28 acres and expanded it to over 70 acres with approximately 1,500 vendors, generating hundreds of jobs annually. The Pulga de Alamo (Spanish for "flea market") has become not just a commercial hub but also a cultural attraction, featuring a popular weekend dance hall called El Domo that has gained significant social media following. Drawing from their childhood experiences of selling items at local flea markets, the Kims have transformed the market into a renowned center of commerce and culture. The Texas Senate formally congratulates the Kims on their achievement and wishes them continued success, also arranging for an official copy of the resolution to be prepared for them as an expression of high regard.
