This bill amends the Department of Innovation and Technology Act to modify the Generative AI and Natural Language Processing Task Force's operational procedures. The Task Force, composed of 16 members including legislators, state officials, educators, cybersecurity experts, and business and labor representatives, is now permitted to hold public meetings in a hybrid format (both virtual and in-person) and will convene at the call of its co-chairpersons as frequently as necessary. The Task Force's responsibilities remain comprehensive, including recommending legislation to protect consumer information, developing model policies for schools regarding AI use, assessing AI's impact on public services, workforce, and civil rights, and evaluating cybersecurity challenges related to generative artificial intelligence and natural language processing. The bill removes previous requirements for specific meeting locations and replaces a single mandated report date with a requirement for periodic reporting to the Governor and General Assembly, allowing more flexibility in documenting the Task Force's ongoing investigations and findings about AI technologies.
