This bill amends two existing laws related to medical cannabis and personal cannabis use. In the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Program Act, it modifies the definition of "designated caregiver" by removing the requirement that the caregiver has not been convicted of an excluded offense and increasing the maximum number of patients a caregiver can assist from one to 10 patients. In the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, the bill changes the cultivation limits for personal use, increasing the number of cannabis plants allowed in a single dwelling, residence, apartment, condominium unit, or enclosed locked space from 5 to 12 plants. These changes effectively expand the rights of medical cannabis caregivers and increase the number of cannabis plants individuals can grow for personal use. The bill aims to provide more flexibility for medical cannabis patients and their caregivers, as well as for individuals cultivating cannabis for personal consumption, while still maintaining restrictions to prevent unauthorized access and public visibility of cannabis plants.
