This bill amends the Illinois Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law by introducing a new requirement for annual reporting on pharmacy deserts. Specifically, the Department of Public Health must submit a report to the General Assembly by December 31st each year that identifies locations of pharmacy deserts within the state and provides information about associated health issues. The bill defines a "pharmacy desert" as a location lacking prescription medication retail sales due to insufficient pharmacies, healthcare facilities, or other prescription medication dispensaries. If the annual report includes information from the federal government that already meets the reporting requirements, the Department will have satisfied its obligations. The bill allows for flexibility in reporting by permitting the use of existing federal data and aims to highlight healthcare access challenges in areas with limited pharmacy services. The legislation is set to take effect immediately upon enactment.
