This bill amends the Illinois Personnel Code to expand veterans' medical leave provisions and make some technical changes to jurisdictional references. Specifically, the bill updates terminology from "veterans hospital visits" to "veterans medical appointments" and broadens the scope of medical leave for veteran employees. Under the revised language, veteran employees will now be permitted 4 days per year to receive medical care authorized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at any type of health care provider or facility, rather than being limited to veterans hospitals or clinics. The bill also expands the purpose of these medical days from only examining a service-connected disability to now include both examination and treatment of a military service-connected condition. Additionally, the bill makes a minor technical change to references in the jurisdictional section, updating a cross-reference from Section 8b.17 to Section 8b.20. These 4 medical leave days will continue to be provided without being charged against the employee's existing sick leave, maintaining the original bill's employee benefit provisions.
