This bill amends the Acupuncture Practice Act to expand the definition of acupuncture by explicitly allowing licensed acupuncturists to order laboratory tests in accordance with state law. Specifically, these tests would be used to check, track, evaluate, and monitor the status and effectiveness of pain management, herbal medicinal plans, dietary and exercise plans, and any orders provided by a physician licensed under the Medical Practice Act. The bill removes a previous provision that prohibited acupuncturists who are not also licensed physical therapists from representing themselves as qualified to provide physical therapy or physiotherapy services. This change effectively broadens the scope of practice for acupuncturists in Illinois, giving them more flexibility in patient care and diagnostic procedures while maintaining the existing restrictions on practices like radiology, electrosurgery, chiropractic techniques, pharmaceutical prescriptions, and vaccine administration.
