This bill proposes a constitutional amendment to establish a procedure for filling vacancies in the office of lieutenant-governor. Specifically, if the lieutenant-governor's position becomes vacant due to death, resignation, removal from office, or ascension to governor, the governor would be required to appoint a replacement within 30 days. This appointment would then need to be confirmed by a majority vote in both the state senate and assembly, with the confirmation vote also required to occur within 30 days of the appointment. The newly appointed lieutenant-governor would serve for the remainder of the original term.
