AI Summary

This bill extends affordable housing preferences to South Korean veterans who served as allies to the United States during the Vietnam conflict, specifically for veterans who are citizens and residents of New Jersey. The legislation modifies existing definitions of "veteran" and "disabled veteran" to include South Korean military personnel who meet these criteria, and ensures they can receive the same housing preferences as U.S. veterans. The bill also expands housing preferences to include surviving spouses of South Korean veterans who served in the Vietnam conflict. These preferences apply to housing projects financed by various New Jersey housing agencies, including the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, public housing authorities, county improvement authorities, redevelopment agencies, and the Department of Community Affairs. The Adjutant General of the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs will be responsible for determining an individual's eligibility under these new provisions. The bill will take effect on the first day of the third month following enactment, with provisions allowing the Commissioner of Community Affairs to take preparatory actions in advance to implement the law.
