AI Summary

This bill amends several sections of New Mexico law related to domestic violence criminal offenses, introducing several key provisions. The bill requires individuals convicted of domestic violence-related offenses, including assault against a household member, aggravated assault, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, multiple battery convictions, and criminal damage to property, to participate in and complete a domestic violence offender treatment or intervention program approved by the Children, Youth and Families Department. Additionally, the bill modifies probation conditions, allowing courts to impose the original potential sentence if an offender violates probation terms and preventing the offender from receiving credit for time served on probation. The changes also extend the potential probation period beyond standard timeframes for certain offenses, with specific limits on total incarceration and probation time. Furthermore, the bill updates language to be more gender-neutral and clarifies law enforcement procedures for handling domestic violence protection orders, including mandatory arrest provisions and restitution requirements. These modifications aim to strengthen protections for domestic violence victims and provide more comprehensive intervention for offenders.
