This resolution honors the life and legacy of Essie Frankie Mae Stegall Arnold, a distinguished citizen of Fairburn, Georgia, who passed away on January 26, 2025. Born in 1930 in Newnan, Georgia, Arnold was a trailblazing community leader who made history as the first African American city councilwoman of Fairburn, serving for 12 years and receiving multiple awards for her outstanding service. A devoted member of Saint John A.M.E. Church, she dedicated nearly 50 years to serving her community through volunteering and contributing to schools, churches, and nonprofit organizations. Arnold was also recognized for her involvement in presidential inaugural ceremonies and received prestigious awards. Known for her hospitality, legendary Sunday dinners, and beautiful garden, she was a loving wife to Lawrence and mother to seven children, grandmother to 22 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to four. The resolution, passed by the House of Representatives, honors her remarkable life, expressing deep regret at her passing and directing the House Clerk to provide a copy of the resolution to her family as a tribute to her significant contributions to her community and society.
