This bill aims to designate April 29th of each year as "Heritage and Freedom Flag of the Former Republic of Vietnam Day" in the state of Georgia. The bill highlights that many South Vietnamese families fled their homeland after the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, and have since become integral members of Georgia's community, working in diverse professions such as education, healthcare, agriculture, business, sports, engineering, religious leadership, and law. By establishing this commemorative day, the Georgia General Assembly seeks to ensure that future generations understand the historical relationship between the United States and South Vietnam, and to celebrate the cultural traditions and ongoing contributions of the Vietnamese community in the state. The bill will formally add this commemorative day to Georgia's official list of holidays and observances by inserting a new section (1-4-27) into the state's legal code.
