This bill updates the process for filling vacancies in the City of Doraville's city council and mayoral positions. Specifically, the bill defines a vacancy as occurring when a council member or mayor resigns, dies, moves out of the city, is absent from four consecutive regular meetings without an approved leave of absence, is deemed incompetent, or is convicted of a felony or election law violation. For council seats, if less than 12 months remain in the term, the mayor can appoint a successor with approval from the remaining council members. If more than 12 months remain, a special election will be held to fill the seat, following the Georgia Election Code.
