The bill also defines a "consolidated law enforcement county" as one where the elected coroner position has been eliminated. For district attorneys, this nonpartisan election requirement applies to those in judicial circuits composed solely of such consolidated law enforcement counties, and candidates will qualify with the Secretary of State, similar to how judges qualify. This new system is set to take effect on January 1, 2028, and will repeal any existing local laws that currently allow for partisan elections for these county offices.
