This bill amends Florida Statute 550.475 to modify the rules for leasing pari-mutuel facilities, specifically for jai alai and other pari-mutuel permit holders. Under the new provisions, permit holders can lease their facilities to another permit holder of the same class or to a jai alai permitholder, but only if the facilities are within a 35-mile radius of each other. The lessee can apply for a license to conduct intertrack wagering and operate their race meet or jai alai games at the leased facility, but they are prohibited from operating a cardroom or slot machine at that location. Additionally, a jai alai permitholder who leases a facility must conduct a minimum of 20 live performances using their existing permit and cannot operate under the lessor's permit. This legislation appears aimed at providing more flexibility for pari-mutuel permit holders while maintaining certain operational restrictions. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
