This bill amends the workers' compensation law and the volunteer firefighters' benefit law to require the state to reimburse municipalities and fire departments for certain costs incurred during mutual aid calls. Specifically, if a paid firefighter, paid fire truck driver, or volunteer firefighter suffers an injury directly related to a mutual aid call and incurs expenses such as medical treatment, lost time, or reduced earnings, the state must reimburse their employing municipality or fire department for these actual costs. Additionally, if a municipality incurs overtime costs due to a mutual aid call, even if no injury occurs, the state will also reimburse those expenses. To receive reimbursement, municipalities and fire departments must submit claims using forms approved by the relevant state commissioners and in accordance with established rules and regulations. The bill will take effect 60 days after becoming law and will apply to costs incurred during mutual aid calls occurring on or after that date, with immediate authorization for developing necessary implementation rules.
