This bill prohibits the sale and distribution of compact fluorescent mercury-added lamps and linear fluorescent mercury-added lamps, which are types of energy-efficient light bulbs containing mercury, starting January 1, 2029. However, existing stock of these lamps acquired before that date can still be sold until July 1, 2029. The bill also outlines several exceptions to this prohibition, including lamps specifically designed for image capture and projection, those with high ultraviolet light emission for purposes like germicidal use or disinfection, lamps used in medical or veterinary applications, those for manufacturing pharmaceutical products, lamps for spectroscopy and photometric applications, lamps used exclusively for research by academic and research institutions, and compact fluorescent mercury-added lamps used to replace those in motor vehicles manufactured before January 1, 2020. The bill defines "compact fluorescent mercury-added lamp" and "linear fluorescent mercury-added lamp" based on their physical characteristics and light emission properties.
