This bill amends Idaho Code Section 54-1010 to clarify and define the term "supervision" in the context of electrical contractor work. Specifically, the bill introduces a new definition of supervision that requires licensed electricians (residential, journeyman, or master) to be available during working hours to provide oversight as needed and to be responsible for electrical installations made under their supervision. The bill maintains existing requirements for electrical contractors, such as employing a full-time journeyman electrician with at least 2,000 hours of experience, and specifies supervision ratios for apprentice electricians in different settings (one licensed electrician to six apprentices in residential settings, and one to two in other settings). Additionally, the bill includes a preemption clause that prevents local government entities from adopting electrical work requirements that differ from or are more extensive than the state standards. The bill will go into effect on July 1, 2025, and is declared an emergency measure to ensure consistent regulation of electrical work across Idaho.
