This bill establishes a working group designed to develop best practices for simultaneously promoting housing growth and protecting the state's water supply. The working group will be composed of 11 members, including legislative leaders from the housing committee, state agency heads (such as the Commissioners of Housing, Energy and Environmental Protection, and Public Health), and six additional members with expertise in housing, planning, and public water supply. The group will be chaired by the chairpersons of the joint standing committee on housing, who will schedule the first meeting within 60 days of the bill's effective date. The working group is required to submit a comprehensive report on its findings to the legislative housing committee by January 1, 2026, after which the group will be dissolved. The legislation aims to address the potentially competing interests of expanding housing development while ensuring sustainable water resources, bringing together diverse stakeholders to create strategic recommendations that balance these important goals.
