This bill revises the process for selecting teachers and other educational professionals to serve on three key Nevada education boards and councils: the State Board of Education, the Teachers and Leaders Council of Nevada, and the Statewide Council for the Coordination of the Regional Training Programs. Currently, these members are selected from nominee lists provided by the Nevada State Education Association. The bill changes this by requiring the Governor to instead select members from nominee lists submitted by two different employee organizations: one representing teachers in the large school district (currently Clark County, which has over 100,000 pupils) and another representing teachers in all other school districts. Specifically, this applies to teacher appointments, as well as appointments for other educational personnel like school counselors, psychologists, and social workers. The number of appointed members remains the same, but the source of nominees is modified to potentially provide more diverse representation across different types of school districts. The bill also adds a definition of "large school district" to clarify the selection process, ensuring that the nominee lists come from organizations representing the plurality of educators in large and smaller districts respectively.
