This resolution recognizes February 20, 2025, as Alpha Day at the Capitol, honoring Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men. Founded in 1906 by seven pioneering men known as the "Jewels" at Cornell University, the fraternity has spent 118 years dedicated to promoting brotherhood, scholarship, and community service. With over 70,000 members across more than 700 chapters worldwide, Alpha Phi Alpha has made significant contributions, including providing $2.3 million in educational scholarships and volunteering 850,000 community service hours. The resolution highlights the fraternity's notable members from Georgia, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ambassador Andrew Young, and Senator Raphael Warnock, and is being presented during their 18th Annual "Alpha Day at the Capitol" under the leadership of District Director James Ford II. The House of Representatives urges citizens to recognize and applaud the fraternity's contributions and commits to distributing copies of the resolution to the fraternity, the public, and the press.
