This bill modifies the existing pharmacy registration requirements in West Virginia by changing the registration renewal period from annually to biennially. Under the new law, pharmacies, ambulatory health care facilities, and charitable clinic pharmacies will need to register with the state board every two years instead of every year. To obtain and maintain registration, applicants must still submit a written application, pay applicable fees, designate a pharmacist-in-charge, and successfully complete a board inspection. Each pharmacy location requires a separate application and registration, and registrations remain non-transferable. If a registration expires, the pharmacy will need to be reinspected and pay an inspection fee. The bill does not alter other existing requirements, such as employing a pharmacist-in-charge and operating in compliance with legislative rules governing pharmacy practice. The law will go into effect 90 days after its passage, which is intended to reduce administrative burden on pharmacies while maintaining regulatory oversight of pharmacy operations.
