This bill updates the requirements for certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) to administer anesthesia in cooperation with physicians or dentists. The bill replaces the existing law with more comprehensive credentialing requirements. Under the new provisions, a CRNA must now: (1) be licensed as a registered professional nurse, (2) be licensed as an advanced practice registered nurse, (3) have completed an educational program from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, and (4) be board certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. The bill also defines "cooperation" as a collaborative process where the CRNA and physician or dentist work together, each utilizing their individual level of expertise and training. This change provides clearer, more specific guidelines for the professional credentials and collaborative practice of nurse anesthetists, ensuring a higher standard of professional qualification and interaction with physicians and dentists when administering anesthesia.
