This bill modifies the retirement service credit rules for members of the State Police retirement system by allowing them to convert accrued annual and sick leave days into additional retirement service credit. For members who became part of the retirement system before July 1, 2015, each accrued leave day (defined as eight hours) can be converted into two workdays of retirement service credit, with two workdays equaling one month of service credit. For members who joined the retirement system on or after July 1, 2015, each accrued leave day can be converted into one day of retirement service credit, with 20 days equaling one month of service credit. In both cases, any remainder of 10 or more days will count as a full month of credit, while remainders less than 10 days will be dropped. This change allows State Police members to potentially increase their total retirement service credit by using accumulated leave days at the time of retirement, providing a financial benefit for unused leave time. The bill ensures that these additional credited service days do not exceed the existing limit of 12 months of credited service per year.
