The bill requires that any restrictions on display placement must be reasonable and provides specific protections for how such items can be temporarily removed during maintenance, including requiring at least 7 days' notice and careful handling of the items. If a landlord or HOA violates these provisions, the affected tenant or homeowner can potentially recover attorney's fees in legal action. The bill defines a "display of religious or cultural items" as something displayed because of sincerely held religious or cultural beliefs, practices, or traditions. The law will become effective on July 1, 2025, and will require existing rental agreements and HOA policies to be reviewed and updated to comply with the new requirements, ensuring that tenants and homeowners can more freely express their religious and cultural identities within their living spaces.
