AI Summary

This bill prohibits auto insurance companies in Rhode Island from using various demographic and socioeconomic factors to determine insurance rates, premiums, or eligibility for coverage. Specifically, insurers would be prohibited from considering an individual's education level, race, ethnicity, disability, occupation, income, credit scores, credit card reports, credit checks, gender, zip code, adjacent zip code, or census tract when setting rates or deciding whether to provide coverage. Instead, insurance companies would be required to base their decisions solely on an individual's driving record. The provisions would take effect on January 1, 2026, and apply to any auto insurance policies issued or renewed on or after that date. The Department of Business Regulation would be responsible for enforcing these new requirements, with the goal of creating a more equitable system for determining auto insurance rates and coverage.
