This bill modifies Section 755 of the Correction Law to streamline how enforcement proceedings can be brought regarding certain legal provisions. Specifically, the bill removes the previous distinction between enforcement actions by public and private agencies and consolidates the enforcement mechanism. Now, the provisions can be enforced by the Division of Human Rights under the procedures outlined in Article 15 of the Executive Law, and concurrently by the New York City Commission on Human Rights. An important additional clause clarifies that this new enforcement approach does not limit an individual's right to pursue other legal remedies available under Article 15 of the Executive Law or other applicable laws.
