This bill enhances criminal penalties for arson when the target is a political organization or the act is motivated by a political purpose. The legislation modifies four sections of Minnesota statutes to create new penalty provisions across different degrees of arson (first, second, third, and fifth degree). Under these new provisions, if an arson is committed against a building or property owned by a political organization, or if the offense is motivated by an actual or perceived association with a political organization, or is intended to make a political statement, the perpetrator can face increased criminal penalties.
