This bill, titled the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act, aims to clarify regulations surrounding hardrock mining by allowing for the location of multiple mill sites on public land, which are defined as areas reasonably needed for waste rock or tailings disposal or other operations connected to mineral development, provided these sites are part of an approved plan of operations. These mill sites, which cannot exceed 5 acres each and do not grant mineral rights or the ability to be patented, can be located on land already containing a lode or placer claim without affecting the validity of those existing claims. The bill also establishes the Abandoned Hardrock Mine Fund, which will be funded by claim maintenance fees collected on these new mill sites, and these funds can be used by the Secretary of the Interior to carry out specific reclamation activities as outlined in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
