A serious misdemeanor is punishable by confinement for no more than one year and a fine of at least $430 but not more than $2,560. AI Summary

This bill establishes new campaign contribution limits for candidates in Iowa, differentiating between statewide elected officials and state legislators. For statewide candidates, political committees are restricted to contributing $4,000, national and state political parties can contribute up to $40,000, and individual persons can contribute a maximum of $4,000 per election campaign cycle. For state senators and representatives, the limits are lower: political committees can contribute $1,000, national and state political parties can contribute up to $10,000, and individual persons can contribute a maximum of $1,000 per election campaign cycle. An "election campaign cycle" is defined as the time period between elections for a particular office, with separate contribution limits applying to primary, general, and special elections. The bill aims to regulate and limit the amount of money that can be contributed to political campaigns, ensuring a more controlled and potentially less influenced electoral process. Violations of these contribution limits would be subject to penalties outlined in existing state law, including potential fines and civil remedies.
