This bill establishes a loan assistance program through the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) specifically for licensed athletic trainers working in public K-12 schools. Eligible athletic trainers can receive up to $7,500 per year or $3,750 per semester for up to four consecutive years to help repay federal student loans, provided they meet specific criteria. To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, hold a master's degree in athletic training from an accredited institution, be licensed by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers, provide at least 20 hours of athletic training services per week at qualifying schools, and have outstanding student loans. The program will be administered by ACHE in consultation with the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers, with no more than 10% of annual appropriations used for administrative costs. The act is set to become effective on August 1, 2025.
