This bill extends the duration of temporary nursing permits from 60 to 90 days for nurses applying for licensure by endorsement or reregistration in Minnesota. Currently, nurses who are seeking to practice professionally in the state while their full license is being processed can obtain a temporary permit that allows them to work. The bill specifically modifies an existing statute to increase the validity period of these temporary permits from 60 days to 90 days, giving nurses more time to complete their licensing process. The temporary permit can be issued to applicants who are currently licensed in another state, territory, or Canadian province, or who are enrolled in a formal nursing refresher course that includes clinical practice. The permit is nonrenewable and can only be issued if the applicant is not under a pending investigation or disciplinary action. This change provides more flexibility for nurses transitioning into practice in Minnesota by giving them additional time to finalize their full professional licensing.
