This bill requires the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission to create and maintain a comprehensive public website with a searchable database containing detailed criminal sentencing information. The database must include data from sentencing worksheets, orders, and departure reports, while ensuring that only public data is disclosed. Users will be able to search and sort through multiple fields such as case number, defendant name, offense date, judicial district, county, year of sentencing, judge, specific crime, criminal history score, offense severity, sentence type and length, and details about sentencing guideline departures. The database will allow users to search using multiple fields simultaneously, sort and group data, and download information into their own databases. To support this initiative, the bill appropriates funds in fiscal years 2026 and 2027 from the general fund to develop and maintain the publicly searchable database, with a specified base funding established for fiscal year 2028 and subsequent years. The goal is to increase transparency in criminal sentencing by providing the public with easy access to comprehensive sentencing information.
