This resolution establishes detailed procedures for nominating and electing six members to the Board of Governors (BOG) of the University of North Carolina through the state Senate. The Senate Select Committee on Nominations will manage the process, accepting formal written nominations from Senators between February 24-28, 2025, with specific requirements such as nominees filing a State Ethics Statement of Economic Interest and being formally nominated by a Senator. The committee will screen nominees, ensuring their qualifications and willingness to serve, and create a slate of candidates no more than twice the number of open positions. During the Senate election, which must occur by March 24, 2025, Senators will vote for six candidates, with each ballot requiring a signature and each candidate needing a majority vote to be elected. If fewer than six candidates receive a majority, runoff elections will be conducted. The Chair of the Senate Committee will canvass votes, declare results, and notify the BOG Secretary of the elected members. Notably, candidates cannot be simultaneously nominated by the House of Representatives, and the entire election process is designed to ensure a transparent and rigorous selection of qualified BOG members.
