This bill expands the membership of the existing Interagency Task Force on Trafficking in Persons, which is a collaborative group of state agency leaders focused on addressing human trafficking issues. Currently, the task force includes commissioners and directors from various state agencies like criminal justice services, temporary and disability assistance, health, and others. The bill adds three new members to the task force: the commissioner of the Department of Transportation, the commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the executive director of the New York State Thruway Authority. These additions will bring new perspectives and resources to the task force's efforts to combat human trafficking. The bill also makes some technical changes to the numbering of the task force's membership positions, shifting the existing appointed members (such as those recommended by the Senate president and Assembly speaker) to new numbered positions. The task force will continue to meet at least three times per year, with members receiving advance written notice of meetings. The new members will be appointed for two-year terms, with the option to be reappointed, and will help bring transportation-related expertise to the task force's work.
