This bill provides a postretirement cost-of-living adjustment specifically for retirees who are 85 years of age or older participating in Kansas public employee retirement systems, including the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS), the Kansas Police and Firemen's Retirement System, the State School Retirement System, and the Retirement System for Judges. Starting July 1, 2025, eligible retirants who are 85 or older will receive a $150 per month increase to their existing retirement benefit, pension, or annuity payment. The term "retirant" includes not only the original system members who are 85 or older, but also their joint annuitants or beneficiaries. This adjustment aims to provide additional financial support to older retirees who may be experiencing increased living expenses, and it will be paid directly by the respective retirement systems. The bill is designed to be supplemental to existing retirement system laws and will take effect upon publication in the statute book.
