AI Summary

This bill, the Quality Basic Education Act, mandates that the State Board of Education create an advanced mathematics pathway for students in grades three through eight, with the goal of students taking a high school-level math course in middle school. The State Board must establish policies for this pathway, including criteria for student qualification, automatic enrollment for qualifying students in grades six through eight (with an option for parents to opt out), and enrollment upon parent request for those not automatically enrolled. Parents and students will be informed about the pathway and enrollment process. Local school systems will be allowed to offer this advanced pathway in grades three through five and will be required to offer it in grades six through eight, with the option to provide additional support for students and teachers. The Department of Education will report annually on enrollment numbers, opt-outs, courses offered, and student math assessment scores, disaggregated by various demographic categories.
