AI Summary
This bill establishes new provisions for student performers in Georgia, allowing them to be counted as present in school while performing in productions for up to 25 school days per year. The bill defines key terms such as "student performer" (a person under 18 enrolled in school who is performing), "studio teacher" (a certified educator providing instruction to performers), and "production" (any public performance across various media platforms). Under the new law, student performers can be credited as present if they obtain a performance certification form completed by their parent/guardian and child labor coordinator, which must detail the curriculum and educational standards being met during their performance time. The bill requires that instruction provided by studio teachers be aligned with the student's school curriculum, especially for performances lasting three or more consecutive school days. For longer performances, employing units and child labor coordinators must ensure that educational content matches the student's school standards, and studio teachers must coordinate with school teachers to provide appropriate instructional materials. Additionally, parents must authorize communication between studio teachers and school personnel, including sharing educational records. The Department of Labor, in consultation with the Department of Education, will develop the necessary certification forms and regulations to implement these provisions.
