This bill amends Georgia's High Demand Apprenticeship Program to expand opportunities for both traditional employer sponsors and new apprenticeship sponsors to participate in state-supported apprenticeship training. The changes allow apprenticeship sponsors (in addition to employer sponsors) to apply for contracts with the Technical College System of Georgia's State Board to conduct apprenticeship programs. The bill modifies the contract completion award structure, providing up to $10,000 per apprentice for contracts entered into before July 1, 2024, and reducing that to $5,000 per apprentice for contracts after that date. The bill also adjusts the number of apprentices a sponsor can support, limiting sponsors to five apprentices per year through Fiscal Year 2024 and increasing that to ten apprentices per year beginning in Fiscal Year 2025. Additionally, the bill maintains provisions for providing funding of up to $2,500 per apprentice 12 months after the start of their apprenticeship, and updates the terms of agreement between sponsors and the board to reflect these new provisions. The bill will become effective upon the Governor's approval or when it becomes law without approval.
