This bill requires the Department of General Services to contract with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Labor Center to conduct a comprehensive study on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on workers and the state's economy. The study will specifically examine how AI affects worker well-being, job quality, job types, different population groups, and state revenues. By June 1, 2027, the department must submit a detailed report of the study's findings to the California Legislature, and must also file a notice with the Secretary of State indicating the submission date. Once the report is submitted, the provisions of this bill will be automatically repealed. This legislation aims to provide policymakers with empirical research on the potential economic and social implications of AI technology in the workplace, which could inform future policy decisions related to workforce development and technological innovation.
