This bill mandates that all hospital, surgical, and medical insurance policies, as well as contracts from medical expense indemnity corporations, hospital service corporations, and health services corporations, must provide coverage for perimenopausal and menopausal care and treatment administered by a physician or other licensed healthcare provider. Perimenopause is defined as the transition period leading to the permanent cessation of ovarian function, while menopause is the permanent cessation of ovulation and hormone production, marked by a twelve-month absence of menstruation for women with a uterus. The bill specifies that this coverage must include treatment for a range of symptoms such as irregular or heavy periods, cognitive changes, hot flashes, mood changes, weight gain, vaginal or bladder issues, decreased fertility, bone loss, increased LDL cholesterol, and sleep disruption, and importantly, this coverage cannot be subject to deductibles, co-payments, or coinsurance.
