This bill provides a $1,144,000 appropriation (funding allocation) for the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support the Ohio Veterans Education Council through several specific initiatives. The funding will be used to provide $2,500 awards to up to nine students serving as Military Community Advocates at public universities and colleges, offer grants of $255,000 to help military and veterans offices at higher education institutions grow private philanthropy, and sponsor staff to attend the National Veterans Leadership Foundation's Advancement Institute. The remaining funds will support administrative costs of the National Veterans Leadership Foundation, create a website connecting veterans to programs at member colleges, administer membership and Ohio Purple Star status, facilitate information sharing, and cover other expenses as determined by the Chancellor of Higher Education in consultation with the National Veterans Leadership Foundation. The appropriation covers fiscal years 2026 and 2027, with the same amount allocated for each year, and is intended to enhance support services and opportunities for veterans in higher education institutions across Ohio.
