This joint resolution commemorates the life and legacy of His Highness Prince Karim Agakhan, the 49th hereditary imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, who passed away on February 4, 2025. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, to a family tracing its lineage to the Prophet Muhammad, Prince Karim was designated as imam at age 20 in 1957 and was committed to promoting Islam as a compassionate faith that upholds human dignity. He founded the Aga Khan Development Network, a non-denominational organization that supports programs in over 30 countries, focusing on health care, housing, education, architectural preservation, and rural economic development. Throughout his life, he developed strong relationships with global leaders, fostered interfaith cooperation, and was widely respected for championing tolerance, peace, and human progress. The resolution expresses profound sadness at his loss, recognizes his numerous achievements and awards, and notes his significant impact on the global Shia Ismaili Muslim community and humanitarian efforts worldwide. The General Assembly resolves to prepare a copy of the resolution to be presented to his family as an expression of respect for his memory.
