This bill allows school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, and private schools to enter into contracts with vendors to provide medication and equipment for respiratory distress, as well as training for school personnel and volunteers who are authorized to administer such medication. Specifically, the bill adds a new section to the Texas Education Code that enables school boards and governing bodies to contract with vendors who can supply respiratory distress medication and related equipment, and provide training on how to properly administer these medications. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in both legislative chambers, or otherwise will take effect on September 1, 2025. This legislation appears aimed at helping schools better manage respiratory health emergencies by providing easier access to medication, equipment, and necessary training for school staff.
